John Sherman served as president and chief executive officer of Scott & Stringfellow from 1996 to 2002 and as vice chairman from 2001 to 2006. Long active in community affairs, John received the 2005 Verizon Arête Award from Leadership Metro Richmond. In 2011, he received the Edward Wayne Medal from Virginia Commonwealth University
Sherman is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond. He has served as chairman of the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the United Way campaign, and Chairman of the Management Roundtable. Currently, he serves on the board of Albemarle Corporation , Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and The Miller Center, at UVA in Charlottesville, among other institutions. John also serves on the vestry of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.
