Gregg and Laurie Kalata

Gregg and Laurie Kalata

Gregg and Laurie Kalata have experienced every parent's worst nightmare.  In 2003, their 16-year-old son, Alex, lost his brave fight with leukemia.  A gifted student and athlete, Alex was loved and respected by all who knew him.  How could they keep his memory alive? Through The Community Foundation, they established the Alexander O. Kalata Fund to support the A.O.K. Award at Maggie Walker Governor's School and other Richmond area high schools. The award recognizes students who embody Alex's positive "A-O.K." attitude and his courage, camaraderie, determination, selfelessness and integrity.  According to Gregg and Laurie, "The Community Foundation lifts the burden of managing our fund, so we can focus on helping students who share Alex's bright spirit."
