Chance Favors the Connected Mind
The 2011 Media Learning Seminar, sponsored by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, is an event that brings together technical experts and foundations to think of ways in which they can engage and inform their communities. The event is part of the Knight Community Information Challenge. Among others, this year's guests included Arianna Huffington, president of the Huffington Post Media Group and Facebook Co-Founder Chris Hughes.
Darcy Oman was highlighted on Community Information Needs after she referenced a webcast on Ted Talk and got many of the seminar's guests thinking. The reference was: "Chance favors the connected mind." It's an idea presented by writer Stephen Johnson, in his video on how great ideas are formed. Essentially, his theory states that being in an environment that inspires collaboration adds to the likelihood that one will have a great idea. The idea is an innovative one for many foundations.
