Two prominent Richmonders remembered

 Terry Sisisky

Terry SisiskyTerry Sisisky was a popular sports broadcaster, who served as the “Voice of VCU Rams” for 28 years.  During this time, he called 840 basketball games for the university.  Terry particularly enjoyed broadcasting high school games.  For over 32 years, he handled the play-by-play radio coverage for high school sports in the Tri-Cities area.  An alumnus of Petersburg High School, Terry was honored for his outstanding career as an inductee to the Richmond Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2006 and the VCU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.

Sadly, Terry succumbed to cancer on July 22nd.  His legacy will live on through his family and friends, and through a new fund established at The Community Foundation just prior to his death.  The Terry R. Sisisky Fund for Sports & Communication will support charitable organizations that encourage youth in the Tri-Cities region to learn and mature through engagement in sports, pursue education in communication and broadcasting, or develop through other youth enrichment opportunities.  Kathy Ivins

Kathy Watkinson Ivins was a loving wife and mother who was well-known as a distinguished real estate broker and marathoner.  Kathy was one of the area’s early female brokers, starting her career in 1982.  She was a senior vice president with Thalhimer Cushmand & Wakefield.  During her career, she was honored by the Richmond Association of Realtors as the Top Commercial Producer in 1999 and the Distinguished Achiever Award for her work spanning two decades.

Outside of work, Kathy was a fitness enthusiast who was a member of the Richmond Road Runners Club and the SEAL Team training program.  She became a marathon runner in 2005, and most recently served as a coach with the Metro Richmond Sports Backers marathon training team.

The Kathy Ivins Fund was established in her memory by her family.  The purpose of the fund is to promote strong communities and healthy lifestyles through organized participatory fitness activities for the Richmond region.  Specifically, the fund will be used to encourage children, youth and adults to be active and fit and to promote economic development linked with physical activity.
