Commonwealth Foundations
In 1996, The Community Foundation received the largest single gift in its history from Alice and Bill Goodwin, Chairman of CCA Industries, to create the Commonwealth Foundations. The Goodwins primarily focus their philanthropic endeavors within the Commonwealth of Virginia for the benefit of educational institutions and other nonprofits that broadly enhance the quality of life for area citizens. Notable beneficiaries of their generosity include their alma maters – UVA Darden School of Business and Mary Baldwin College – as well as VCU School of Engineering and the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. Through their leadership, the Goodwins hope to inspire and encourage gifts from others to further enhance our community.
