Jenkins Foundation
The Jenkins Foundation was formed in 1995 when Retreat Hospital, a not-for-profit hospital, was sold to HCA and the hospital's endowment was converted to form a new supporting organization. Governed by a board of all women, the Jenkins Foundation continues the legacy of Annabella Ravenscroft Jenkins, who in 1877 founded the hospital to provide compassionate health care to all in need-regardless of race, class or ability to pay.
The mission of the Jenkins Foundation is to improve the health of Greater Richmond. It does this by supporting quality health care and effective health care programs in the City of Richmond and the Counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland and Powhatan. Grants are awarded through a competitive process as determined by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
