R.E.B. Foundation

The principal donors of the R.E.B. Foundation are committed to the importance of public education. They believe that good teachers are pivotal to the success of public education and have chosen to honor outstanding classroom teachers, in the hope of motivating all teachers and strengthening public education.

Each year since 1988, the R.E.B. Foundation has awarded about $100,000 to 15 public school teachers in the metro Richmond area. The R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence fund professional development opportunities designed by the teachers themselves. The recipients are selected each year from approximately 150 elementary, middle and high school teachers who are nominated by students, parents, fellow teachers and the public at-large. In 2004, the R.E.B. Foundation partnered once again with The Community Foundation to launch a second recognition program for public school principals.  The R.E.B. Awards for Distinguished Educational Leadership seeks to recognize those principals who go beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional educational environment.  Four principals are publicly recognized annually, one in each school district of the Metropolitan area, i.e. the Counties of Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico, and the City of Richmond.  View list of recent award recipients.

In addition to funding the R.E.B. awards programs, this supporting organization makes grants to support other educational activities, as well as to cultural and social service programs.
