Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence

Fostering operating excellence in the local charitable sector has been a part of The Community Foundation's grants portfolio for nearly 15 years.  Our community is best served when nonprofits develop and maintain strong and engaged board leadership, fiscal transparency, well-trained and knowledgeable staff, and when organizations pursue their charitable missions with strategic focus.

As the skill sets needed for effective and sustainable organizational development become increasingly complex, area funders are expanding their efforts to foster operating excellence in the sector.  The Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence was created in December 2006.  It is envisioned that the Partnership will become a central resource for local capacity building and technical assistance efforts within the charitable sector.  The Partnership helps with:

Organizational Training
The Partnership provides technical assistance to nonprofits by helping them to identify and address issues, to strengthen their core skills and capacities and to gain the insight, knowledge and experience to solve problems and implement change.  We do this through Consulting Solutions, which provides an assessment and coaching approach that will advance operating excellence for nonprofits.

Professional Development & Training
The Partnership seeks opportunities to offer low-cost, high-quality educational opportunities for staff and volunteers.  We do this through the Nonprofit Learning Point program offered as part of VCU's Office of Community Programs, and through the generosity of several local foundations and corporate funders.

Information & Communication
The Partnership promotes resource sharing and communication within the sector through the Connect Network.  Connect Network is a central point of access to local information, data, resources and communication channels for citizens interested in building a stronger community. This program was developed by the University of Richmond and is currently housed at VCU Division of Community Engagement.

Volunteerism
The Partnership supports efforts to engage volunteers in community service.  We do this through Hands On Greater Richmond, which connects individuals or groups to one-time volunteer projects with local nonprofit agencies.  Hands On GR offers unique, fun and flexible ways for community members and corporations to get involved.
