Amanda Lynn Seeley Memorial Scholarship


Description

The Amanda Lynn Seeley Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 by her family and friends, to honor a young woman who demonstrated the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service throughout her life. The purpose of the scholarship fund is to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of Prince George, Southampton, Surry and Sussex County public and private schools. The recipient of the scholarship will be a well-rounded individual who participates fully in activities in school, his/her faith based community, and his/her local community.

Eligibility

 

An eligible student must be a senior attending Prince George, Southampton, Surry and Sussex County public and private schools.

An eligible student must demonstrate outstanding commitment to academics, character, leadership, service, and his/her faith-based community.

An eligible student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 GPA scale.

An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

How Winners Are Chosen

Student’s eligibility will be evaluated on their response to personal statement.

Academic performance evaluated on grade point average and SAT test scores.

Commitment to and involvement in extracurricular and community service activities.

Financial need will be evaluated on the basis of the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

How to Apply

Send the attached completed application including:

  • Supporting documents outlined on application form
  • Personal statement:
    • Your statement should be at least 500 words in length, typed, 12 point font and double spaced (following the format you use in English class).
    • Your statement should address why you believe you are eligible for this scholarship, specifically, your commitment to academic achievement and plans for the future, your leadership and service both in your school and in your community, and your involvement in your faith community.

Fill out the attached Financial Aid Form as instructed and send it to the university/college(s) for completion. The school will forward it to The Community Foundation.
