Dollars for Scholars Scholarship
Description
The Dollars for Scholars Scholarship Program was established in 1998 by donors to support a graduating senior from Northumberland High School, Heathsville, Virginia. Students are selected on the basis of academic accomplishments, participation in school and community service, and financial need. Preference will be given to a student who plans to attend a Virginia public college or university. A recipient who maintains good academic standing and wishes to continue in college will be eligible to renew their scholarship for up to four years of undergraduate study.
Note: Dollars for Scholars is not awarding any new scholarships in 2012.
Eligibility
- An eligible student must be a senior attending Northumberland High School, P.O. Box 40, Heathsville, Virginia 22473.
- An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited 4-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.
- An eligible student must demonstrate academic achievement, participation in school and community service activities and financial need.
- Preference will be given to a student who plans to attend a Virginia public college or university.
How Winners Are Chosen
- Academic achievement evaluated based on grade point average and SAT scores.
- Financial need evaluated based on the completed FAFSA Report Summary, personal statement and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.
- Leadership in school activities and community service evaluated based on the student's extracurricular involvement, academic standing, honors and awards, and involvement in the community through public service.
- Response to personal statement.

Dollars for Scholars is not awarding any new scholarships in 2012.
Renewing Your Scholarship
College students who received this scholarship in 2011, and have maintained good academic standing, may reapply by submitting the completed application form together with a transcript of their grades for the preceding school term and academic year.
Please provide a brief letter describing your campus activities, academic progress, and any changes in your financial status.
Applications for continued assistance will be considered on a competitive basis.
