Donald W. Colbert Scholarship
Description
The Donald W. Colbert Scholarship was established in 2006 by S&K Famous Brands in memory of their friend, colleague and leader, Donald W. Colbert. The purpose of the fund is to award educational scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Richmond City Public Schools who plan to attend a four-year college or university, community college or vocational school. Preference will be given to students who have an interest in pursuing a career in retail, or whose parents are currently employed in the retail industry.
Eligibility
An eligible student must be a high school graduate of a public high school in Richmond City.
An eligible student must demonstrate scholastic commitment, academic promise, commitment to serving his or her community, and financial need.
An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university, community college or vocational school the following academic year.
Preference will be given to students who express an interest in pursuing a career in retail, or whose parents are employed in the retail industry.
How Winners Are Chosen
Scholastic commitment and academic promise will be evaluated based on regular attendance, grade point average and SAT scores.
Commitment to community service will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant’s involvement in the community through public service, for example, involvement in service organizations like the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts.
Financial need will be evaluated on the basis of the completed financial aid forms and information provided in the student’s personal statement.

Send the attached completed application form including:
- Supporting documents outlined on application form
- Personal statement about why further education is important to you and what your goals are for the future. Please identify any connection to the retail industry (either your interest or parent’s employment) in your personal statement.
Fill out the attached Financial Aid Form as instructed and send it to the university/college(s) for completion. The school will forward it to The Community Foundation.
