Father John D. Boddie Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description

The Father John D. Boddie Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 by members of the Church of the Visitation in Middlesex County, Virginia, to support post-secondary educational opportunities for qualifying church members.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a registered member of the Church of the Visitation in Middlesex County, Virginia.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate a commitment to the church through active involvement in worship and other parish related activities.  
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year college, community college, university or vocationalschool in the United States the following academic year.

How Winners Are Chosen

  • The primary criterion for this scholarship is a demonstrated involvement in worship and activities of the parish. This will be evaluated on the basis of the student's personal essay and verification of service from the parish.
  • Consideration will be given to academic achievement and participation in school activities through evaluation of a student’s grade point average and SAT scores, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular and community involvement.
  • Financial need will also be consideredon the basis of completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

How to Apply

  • Submit one copy of the attached completed application including:
    • Supporting documents outlined on application form
    • Personal statement of reflection on your growth and faith as a parishioner of The Church of the Visitation and how you will use this educational opportunity to enrich the lives of others in the community.
    • Letter from an appropriate parish member verifying your church involvement.
  • Fill out the attached Financial Aid Form as instructed and send it to the university/college(s) for completion.  The school will forward it to The Community Foundation.
