Frederic Scott Reed Scholarship


Description

Frederic (Freddie) Scott Reed, a life long resident of Goochland County died in the fall of 1998. Mr. Reed’s friends and family established this award, in his memory, to recognize his outstanding contributions to Goochland County. The purpose of this scholarship is to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of Goochland High School, Goochland County, Virginia. The recipient of the scholarship will be a student who best exemplifies Mr. Reed’s strong leadership characteristics.

Eligibility

  • An eligible student must be a senior attending Goochland High School, 1860 Sandy Hook Road, Goochland, VA 23063.
  • An eligible student must demonstrate a commitment to school and community activities, and academics.
  • An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.

How Winners Are Chosen

  • Involvement in extracurricular and community service activities;
  • Character, integrity, and leadership skills based on personal essay;
  • Satisfactory academic record based on grade point average and SAT scores;
  • Financial need based on the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any; and
  • Faculty recommendation

Award Amounts

Up to $2,000 each year for up to 4 years

How to Apply

Send the attached completed application including:

  • Supporting documents outlined on application form
  • Personal statement outlining leadership responsibilities and future goals.

Complete top portion of attached financial aid form for each college/university being considered and send directly to financial aid office. College/university will complete form and return to The Community Foundation.

Renewing Your Scholarship

College students who are presently receiving this scholarship, and have maintained good academic standing, may reapply by submitting the completed application form together with a transcript of their grades for the preceding school term and academic year.

Please provide a brief letter describing your campus activities, academic progress, and any changes in your financial status.

Applications for continued assistance will be considered on a competitive basis.
