Heather Dayton Memorial Scholarship
Description
The Heather Dayton Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by Heather’s family to preserve her memory by supporting post-secondary scholarships for students of Native American descent. The scholarship is based on respect for diversity and tolerance for all people, community service, and a commitment to working for the benefit of Native Americans.
Eligibility
An eligible student must be a high school senior attending King William High School in King William, VA; New Kent High School, in New Kent, VA; Central High School in King and Queen County, VA; or Charles City High School in Charles City, VA.
An eligible student must be of Native American descent.
An eligible student must demonstrate a commitment to his or her community and participation in school activities.
An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.
How Winners Are Chosen
- Academic achievement based on grade point average and SAT scores.
- Involvement in school activities and the community through public service.
- Financial need based on the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.
Award Amounts
Up to $5,000How to Apply
Send the attached completed application including:
- Supporting documents outlined on application form
- Personal statement about what it means to be Native American
Complete top portion of attached financial aid form for each college/university being considered and send directly to financial aid office. College/university will complete form and return to The Community Foundation.
