Joseph Henry Jones Sr. and Vernell W. Jones Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 by friends and family of Joseph and Vernell Jones, life long residents of Charles City. This scholarship honors a couple who emphasized the importance of education to their children. The purpose of this scholarship is to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying graduates of Charles City High School, Charles City, Virginia.

Eligibility

An eligible student must be a senior attending Charles City High School;

An eligible student must demonstrate financial need, outstanding commitment to academics, school and community activities, and also a commitment to fellow classmates;

An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year community college, college or university, or vocational or technical institution in the continental United States the following academic year. 

How Winners Are Chosen

Commitment to fellow classmates and involvement in extracurricular and community service activities;

Academic achievement will be evaluated based on grade point average and academic honors; and

Financial need based on the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

How to Apply

Send the attached completed application including:

  • Supporting documents outlined on application form
  • Personal statement outlining commitment to classmates and future goals.

Complete top portion of attached financial aid form for each college/university being considered and send directly to financial aid office. College/university will complete form and return to The Community Foundation.
