Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer Scholarship
Description
In 2005, the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, in Petersburg, Virginia, established a scholarship fund to support the Church’s young congregation members by awarding educational scholarships to graduating seniors who are communing members of the Church and plan to attend a college, community college or vocational school. Scholarship awards will be based on eligibility criteria outlined below and an essay to be published in the Church newsletter, Good News.
Eligibility
- An eligible student must be a communing member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Petersburg, Virginia.
- An eligible student must demonstrate a commitment to worship.
- An eligible student must maintain at least a “C” average.
- An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in an accredited two or four-year college, community college or vocational school the following academic year.
How Winners Are Chosen
- The primary criterion for this scholarship is a demonstrated commitment to worship, the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and the Church community. This will be evaluated on the basis of the student's personal essay.
- The Scholarship Committee will also consider academic work and participation in school activities through evaluation of a student’s grade point average and SAT scores, letters of recommendation and extracurricular involvement.
