Mary Davidson Bryan Scholarship
Description
The Mary Davidson Bryan Scholarship was established by the family of Mary Davidson Bryan to benefit academically qualified graduates of high schools in Bedford and Rockbridge Counties.
Eligibility
The student must be a resident of Bedford County or Bedford City and attend a Bedford County Public School; or be a resident of Rockbridge County or Lexington City and attend a Rockbridge County high school or a combined Rockbridge County and Lexington high school.
An eligible student must demonstrate outstanding academic work, financial need, and strong participation in school activities and community service, and a strong desire to attend college.
An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year and plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university in the continental United States the following academic year.
How Winners Are Chosen
Academic achievement and rank in the upper fourth of the graduating class.
Financial need based on the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.
Leadership in school activities and community service based on the student's extracurricular involvement, academic standing, honors and awards, and involvement in the community through public service.
Strong moral character.
Award Amounts
$1,000 each year for up to 4 yearsHow to Apply
Send the attached completed application including:
- Supporting documents outlined on application form
- Personal statement of post-secondary academic interests
- Additional letter of recommendation from a clergy, teacher, or business professional
Complete top portion of attached financial aid form for each college/university being considered and send directly to financial aid office. College/university will complete form and return to The Community Foundation.

Renewing Your Scholarship
College students who are presently receiving this scholarship, and have maintained good academic standing, may reapply by submitting the completed application form together with a transcript of their grades for the preceding school term and academic year. You do not need to submit the additional attachments listed on the application form.
Please provide a brief letter describing your campus activities, academic progress, and any changes in your financial status.
Applications for continued assistance will be considered on a competitive basis.
