Mathews Technical and Vocational Scholarship


Description

The Mathews Technical and Vocational Scholarship Fund (formerly the Mathews Capital Resources Scholarship Fund) was established in 2007 to support post-secondary vocational training scholarships for qualifying high school seniors of Mathews High School, Mathews, VA.  

Eligibility

An eligible student must be a senior attending Mathews High School who is currently enrolled in the vocational-technical program.

An eligible student must plan to attend an accredited community college, trade or vocational school. Vocational-technical programs may include, but are not limited to: auto-mechanics, machinist, paralegal, culinary arts, graphic arts, plumbing, drafting, teacher’s aid, massage therapy, and bartending.

An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year.

Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.  

How Winners Are Chosen

Achievement in the vocation-technical program at Mathew’s High School will be evaluated based on high school transcripts.

Financial need will be evaluated based on the completed financial aid forms and information regarding pending scholarship applications, if any.

Response to personal statement. 

Award Amounts

Minimum of $1,000. The dollar amount of the award may be adjusted to allow applicants sufficient resources to complete the first full year of the chosen training program.

How to Apply

Send the attached completed application including:

  • Supporting documents outlined on application form
  • Personal statement about future goals

Complete top portion of attached financial aid form for each college/university being considered and send directly to financial aid office. College/university will complete form and return to The Community Foundation.
