Richmond African American Scholarship
Description
The Richmond African American Scholarship Fund was established in 2003 to support post-secondary educational scholarships to qualifying college bound African American students of public schools in the City of Richmond. Scholarships are to be used by the student to assist in some of the expenses associated with attending college and will be awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, civic and community involvement, leadership and financial need.
Eligibility
An eligible student must be an African American student who attends one of seven public high schools in Richmond City Schools. The eligible schools are Armstrong, Franklin Military, George Wythe, Huguenot, John Marshall, Richmond Community, Thomas Jefferson or Open High School.
An eligible student must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, civic and community involvement, and leadership capabilities.
An eligible student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher (based on a 4.0 scale). Students who attend schools that are not on a 4.0 scale should request their guidance counselor convert their GPA accordingly.
An eligible student must be a candidate for high school graduation at the end of the current academic year, and plan to enroll in a full-time Baccalaureate program at an accredited four-year college or university the following academic year.
