Stettinius Awards for Nonprofit Leadership

BACKGROUND

The Stettinius Fund for Nonprofit Leadership was established by Cadmus Communications Corporation on the occasion of Wallace Stettinius’ retirement from the Cadmus Board of Directors.  The purpose of the Fund is to help develop effective organizational leadership within the local charitable sector by providing professional development opportunities to nonprofit professionals who have demonstrated the potential to become the future leaders of the community.

Mr. Stettinius’ board retirement at age 71 culminated 37 years of distinguished corporate leadership with the company.  Stettinius joined the company as president of William Byrd Press in 1967.  Under his leadership, the printing firm grew from a privately owned company with $3 million in annual sales to a publicly traded corporation with $300 million in annual sales by 1995.

Long a student of the art and discipline of strategic management, Stettinius brought his forward thinking and dynamic leadership style to the business of managing effective organizations in the charitable sector.  Stettinius has challenged nonprofit leaders to adopt leadership strategies, business planning and a culture of learning to the work of serving the common good.   An active board volunteer throughout his business career, Stettinius expanded his scope of volunteer work in his “first” retirement, to become a trusted advisor, teacher and mentor to many area nonprofit organizations.
